Ivana Akotowaa Ofori is a Ghanaian storyteller. Self-styled as “The Spider Kid,” she is a weaver of words in many forms, including fiction, non-fiction and spoken-word poetry. Some of her work appears in the Flash Fiction Ghana anthology Kenkey for Ewes and Other Very Short Stories; in the Writivism anthology And Morning Will Come; and online magazines such as AFREADA, Jalada Africa, and The Kalahari Review. Akotowaa has been included in the long- and shortlists for various awards, among them the 2017 and 2018 Writivism Prizes, the 2020 Toyin Falola Prize, and the 2020 Nommo Awards. Under the mononym of Akotowaa, she has been practicing spoken word poetry for several years, predominantly in Accra. As a performer, she has opened for the likes of Sarah Kay, Phil Kaye, and Poetra Asantewa. Akotowaa spends much of her time looking for excuses to make everything purple.
